Jedwabno, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Jedwabno ((ドイツ語:Jedwabno, 1938-45: Gedwangen)) is a village in Szczytno County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. It is the seat of the administrative district of Gmina Jedwabno.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Central Statistical Office (GUS) - TERYT (National Register of Territorial Land Apportionment Journal) )〕 It lies approximately west of Szczytno and south-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (East Prussia).
In 1436, in records of the Komturei Osterode, a first time mention of the settlement of Gedwangen in the Prussian territory of Sassen is mentioned. The name Gedwangen includes the Prussian language words "gedian" thicket and "wangus" (cleared oak forest). A church was built in Gedwangen at that time and the inhabitants are recorded to have lived mainly from forest beekeeping. Later Protestant settlers from Poland to Prussia introduced the name Jedwabno.
